I forgot to write back on this forum, but I have already bought this notebook two weeks ago from www.notebook.de for 1200 Euro. :cheer:

It's is really much better in quality than the F3JP notebook that I had before it.
It is also very silent.
Actually, the fan is very quiet most of the time in normal office work although the profile is set to maximum performance.
The harddisk in most of the cases is loader than the fan.
It seems that the harddisk chamber in this notebook is not well designed and it actually amplifies HDD motor vibrations.
If you are sitting in a quiet room you will hear the buzzing of the HDD.
But overall I have no complains about that as the noise produced by this machine is much lower than my old F3jp.

which hdd vendor is it?

The HDD in my M50VM is Western Digital 320GB model number WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0.

I have also a samsung 320GB HM320JI, but the amount of noise coming from the harddisk chamber was almost the same when I built in the HM320JI instead of the WD3200BEVT.

I have also done some experiments by taking the WD3200BEVT outside and operating it externally using an external eSata controller. The sound that you hear from this HDD or Samsung HDD is loader when it is placed inside the notebook, than when the same HDD is operated uncovered on the table.

So I have come to the conclusion that because this notebook has a larger chamber for HDD and there is lot of empty space around the HDD, the sound from the HDD motor vibrations is echoing inside the chamber and is loader than when the same HDD is operated outside the notebook.

This may not be noticable by some of us, but becuase where I work it is usually very quiet and that's why I hear this buzzing all the time.
At first I thought it was the fan, but than I noticed that the sound is coming from the right side where as the fan is on the left side.

I think, the problem with your loud WD-HDD is an 'unlucky' feature - but it is an much more solid product than the old F3... so I think, this will be no reason, to 'kick' it...

Yes, this notebook is much better than my F3jp.
That is the reason I went for it.

I bought mine from www.notebook.de/asus-m50-m51-serie-g-765/

I see that they have increased the price of the notebook now.
It cost 30euros more now.

I was the first one to get it from them or maybe even the first one to get it in Germany.
I got mine on 11th of August.
Actually the shop first made a mistake and told me to preorder and they said they will deliver it until 6th of August.
But it turned out they were wrong.
Then they said that ASUS will not release it until 14th of August and they said they will not deliver it until 18th of August.

I got angry and asked for my money back, but then they sent it to me on 11th of August.

They said they got a few notebooks which they wanted to display in their shop and they were not going to sell them, but because I wanted my money back they sent me one of them.

For anybody else interested in buying this notebook, and would like to see some reviews and benchmarks you can go to the following place:

Note: The American model in the links above contains a different WLAN card than what is offered here in Germany.

I too bought the m50vn, and downgraded to winxp and i cant find any drivers for!

Maybe there is someone who can help me.

here is an quick ‘how-to…’ for installing xp at your m50vm.

but you need to check first :
1
- copy down all hardware id’s for reference (and save them not on your hdd – better to print it).
2
- go into bios and enable ide or compatible mode.
3.1
-go to asus.com and search up the vista 32bit drivers for m50vm. (download and save on disc = cd/dvd)
3.2
- go to asus.com and search up the xp 32bit drivers for v1sn. (download and save on disc = cd/dvd)
4.
- pop in 32bit xp home edition / professional and install.

...then continue and work :

1. download and install chipset driver (from disk or new from intel-dowloadsite)
2. atk driver and all utilities (i used xp drivers for v1sn from asus site) but drivers from the disk should work too
3. uaa and audio from realtek
4. vga from laptopvideo2go.com (blueray play doesn’t work with some, try couple)
...or download desktop vga driver from nvidia and use nvidia mobility modder tool to modify it. www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php
